Victory Hall History

Victory Hall in Balcombe has quite the history! Originally built around 1901 as a working men’s institute, it was later remodelled and expanded in 1923 to become a memorial village hall and social club. The redesign was led by Lady Gertrude Denman, working alongside architect John Bond.

One of its standout features is a set of frescos by artist Neville Lynton, adding a unique artistic touch to the building2. Over the years, it has undergone further extensions, adapting to the needs of the community while maintaining its historical charm2.

It was officially listed as a Grade II building on May 26, 2023, recognizing its architectural and historical significance2. Quite the legacy for a village hall, don’t you think? Have you visited it before?
